Chiropractic Care

Chiropractors are licensed healthcare professionals who have earned an advanced degree in chiropractic medicine. Chiropractors have a wide range of knowledge that allows them to manage every phase of an individual’s health restoration plan. Once the ideal musculoskeletal health is accomplished, chiropractors also perform preventative maintenance protocols, so that the patient’s issues don’t return. Each plan is customized to the individual and carried out according to the patient’s needs.

Chiropractic is a healthcare specialty that works to assess, diagnose, and treat problems of the musculoskeletal system. Ultimately, the goal of chiropractic care is to reduce pain and restore functional independence to each individual. To achieve this goal, a chiropractic doctor uses manual spinal adjustments to restore the spine to its best functioning. Chiropractors also employ modalities such as:

  • Acupuncture
  • Rehabilitative exercise
  • Postural restoration protocols
  • Electrical stimulation
  • Hot and cold therapies
  • Ultrasound
  • Massage therapies

Many of these are performed in conjunction with chiropractic spinal manipulation.

What do chiropractors do?

Generally, the primary  intent of chiropractic care is to reduce the inflammation, swelling, and pain that are contributing to a patient’s condition and return them to full function. Chiropractors work to increase their patients’ flexibility and mobility and to restore their full range of motion. They also counsel and recommend protocols to improve a patient’s strength and endurance so that the body is capable of maintaining optimal musculoskeletal health.

Chiropractors aim to improve a patient’s ability to do everyday tasks and activities, so they can return to and maintain an active lifestyle. A doctor of chiropractic can oversee a patient’s reaction to treatment and adjust the treatment as necessary. Ongoing assessment and adjustment enable a chiropractic care professional to keep their patients functioning well, and prevent their musculoskeletal problems from returning.

Chiropractic care is a non-surgical, drug-free approach to health and wellbeing. The brain employs the spinal cord and nervous system to communicate with the cells, tissues, organs, structures, and systems in the body. When functioning optimally, the communication between the brain and body runs smoothly.

Chiropractic care is not only limited to spinal issues. It also addresses interferences in the nervous system. The nervous system serves as the body’s internal wiring. If this wiring is impaired, the nervous signals do not reach the intended body part, and illness may result. Chiropractors can examine the spine for any interferences and remove them. Chiropractic techniques are applied in a sequence of healing steps. These include:

  • Initial spinal adjustments help to reduce poorly aligned structures that lead to nervous system interference.
  • Once the optimal nervous function is restored, the nervous system is freed up and can release old patterns of “dis-ease” trapped in the body and mind.
  • With ongoing corrective chiropractic care, the nervous system can learn and adapt, adjusting to challenges more effectively.

Nervous system interferences can manifest anywhere along the spine. Once chiropractic adjustment is applied to the spinal bones, the stress and irritation on the spinal cord and nerve coverings are reduced, and the body and the nervous system can heal more efficiently.
